April 2015

April 6, 2015

Hey Easter was great! Your package got here on Saturday! Thank you so much I love candy! I am pretty sure i am the only Elder who got a Easter package in the zone so thanks again. Easter was great! we watched conference at our ward mission leaders house which was at  6:00am in the morning here way to early! Anyways then we had an awesome lunch at one of our investigators. They are all Catholic but we all celebrated the resurrection of our savior together which was awesome! after that we had dinner with the moody clan! ok I am not sure if I have told you about the coolest family ever but I will now. So basically this family makes up 1/2 of the Waialua ward. So this family all lives alright next to each other like within a mile there are the original moody's their kids and then there is their kids all right next to each other. its pretty cool they are the nicest family in the world. Anyways they always invite us to there family gatherings.

We some how always end up playing Ultimate Frisbee every time we go over there its a blast! also some elders in my district wrote a song and we all sang it for one of our meetings its pretty good its kind of a weird recording but here it is.( sorry I don't know how to put the recording on the Blog)

April 10, 2015

Hey family and friends,
So it's been a while since I wrote a letter so I thought I would give you an update on my mission stuff ha ha. Okay so I have been in the Waialua  Word for 4 1/2 months now and just found out today that I will be here for another  transfer (6 weeks)  that's awesome. I love it here in Waialua  Word here reminds me a lot of the good old seventh ward. Man my mission is just flying by it seems like I just got here last week. I have learned so much!  But mostly I just have fun I live and breathe the spirit I have such a thirst for it like never before. We have some really cool families that are less active that we are trying to bring back to church. That's most of the work here. We have a few eternal investigators . Which basically means someone who we teach but they won't make or keep commitments such as reading the book of Mormon or getting a baptism date. Which means they never really progress which is really  frustrating sometimes. But I have learned that as a missionary all we can do is give them the opportunity to come, we can't force them because they have agency just like us.  Actually something funny that someone told me is God gave us agency so we can choose right from wrong, but man other people's agency sucks!  Ha ha it's true though I wish I could make decisions for other people sometimes but we can't. Anyways I am doing pretty great sometimes I miss home mostly because of the freedom I had there and the family. But most the time I am spreading the good word. Actually I recently have been teaching myself piano I know 2 hymns now! Ha ha it's amazing what you can learn with a little downtime and no Facebook.  Also I have almost solved the Rubiks cube and I am almost done learning a hymn on the ukulele . So a lot is going on but the most important thing I am learning is how to share my testimony with others. I love my mission and I can't believe I get to serve it here in Hawaii of all places. I hope all is going well back
in Utah. Have a great week!

P.S.   Please please feed the sister missionaries there in the ward I get fed every night please return the favor and send me a picture so I can see that you did thanks!  also if you haven't already watched this video it's a killer #Because He Lives

With love and a Aloha Elder Jason Tad Olson

Mom things are awesome this last few months have been some of the best and hardest months of my life but i think i have finally figured out how to be a missionary and its great! my companion and i  are still awesome I will miss him a lot when I transfer on the 20th of May I don't know where I am going yet but I know I will be leaving the Waialua ward. This is so sad to me I have such a strong love for all these people and I cant believe that I have to leave already. At the same time i am so excited to start yet another adventure it feels a lot like leaving home all over again but i am ready to learn something new.The work here is good like i said its a lot of less active work but we have been able to bring 2ish family back to church which feels really good and is actually really fulfilling as a missionary. we actually only taught that Michael guy twice then he never called us back or answered his door so i guess he doesn't want it anymore.  love you cant wait to skype you on the 10th. thanks for the new camera i need to figure out a better way of sending to pictures be cause right now I have to attach and send them one by one and that's really annoying ,

Love Elder Olson

We won a brand new 2015 Chevy  Cruze at zone confrance !!! its so awesome so whoever has the cleanest car at zone confrance gets to pick any of the other missionary's car and trade them so we took the newest and the nicest haha.

March 2015

March 31, 2015

hey family sorry I didn't email yesterday we had our temple trip today so that made today our P-day instead of Monday. alot of the mission work here in Hawaii or at least in my area is less active work. so we are trying to reactivate almost a 3rd of the ward its actually really frustrating because they tell us they will be there on Sunday and then guess what? there not. nevertheless we are still working hard and i am still really tired haha but I love where I am in life and I wouldn't trade it fro anything. love you all - Elder Olson  also am I getting a easter package because if i am please fill it with marshmallow peeps they are 1.75 here? that's crazy. thanks for the pictures!

(Previous to this email I had told Jason about the change in our Bishopric)

They changed Tony! What? Why would they do that he was doing awesome? Also I need a picture brother Adams face ha ha also I didn't see any pictures of the kitchen yet.

So the Stake asked me to share the story for the MTC day so this is what I sent them I don't think I

told you this story so here it is.

I freaking love MTC day! I still remember the things that I learned. MTC day is the first time I ever got the opportunity to teach the restoration which now I do a lot of ha ha. Anyways take this day to really try to be a missionary and pay attention I promise you will learn something as I did. One thing I remember learning at the MTC day, that has helped me is when we learned about how to serve your companion and try to live in harmony. I can't remember who taught that part but I remember him saying how we have to compromise with each other and pray for each other. This has stuck with me and with my companion this far. Actually I have a pretty funny story about compromising that happened with my first companion. Okay so when I first got to Hawaii my companion took me home and I am packed all my stuff and as I was hanging up my stuff there were these three pair of pants hanging on my side of the closet so I assumed they were my companions, so I push them over to his side. Then later that day these pants were pushed over on my side again so once again I pushed him back to his side. Then this routine went on for about a week. That's when I was going to say something to him in companion inventory but then I decided that it really wasn't worth bringing it up and I was willing to overlook the pants. So I guess I just decided maybe into Tahiti (which is where he was from ) they don't believe in personal space. So for the three months we were together every time I had to change my clothes there were those pants on my side it became to be really annoying. Until like the last day before transfers I go to get changed and you guessed it, there were those freaking pants again. So I grabbed them and push them as geometrically as possible hoping my compounded would notice how annoyed I was. Then my companion looked at me with fire in his eyes walked over to the closet and push the pants as hard as he could back to my side right in front of me. At this point I was about to explode but then he said KEEP YOUR PANTS ON YOUR SIDE!
And then I just started to laugh and said wait these aren't your parents? No! He answered then I said well they're not my pants. Then it clicked in our heads that there were just pants another missionary had left there. We started to laugh so hard because neither one of us thought it was worth fighting about so we were secretly annoyed with each other the whole time we were together ha ha Ha. What I learned from this is if you have a problem with your companion just talked that to them about it don't let it be the pair of pants in your relationship don't let it turn into something big but also be willing to change and compromise. Have a great MTC day and try to learn something and you will I promise.

Aloha,
Elder Olson

(I had told Jason I really wanted a long written letter from him for my Birthday and this
  is the letter he sent.)

Alright mom! Here is your letter ha ha also I made you a Lei out of leaves for you it's handmade out of love hopefully it will get to you before your birthday. A less active member named Natile taught me how to make them. I am starting to feel pretty local one thing the locals do is wear flip-flops everywhere but here they call them slippers. Some other things that are different here in Hawaii is people here use the word rubbish instead of garbage. They also use the word Shocka for everything. Mainly to say thank you but especially while driving, when you let someone in they throw a Shocka if you switch lanes you throw a shocka. Even the buses here have a little screen on the back so the bus driver can throw you a Shocka can you let them in ha ha it's pretty cool. Now that I have been in the Waialua ward for four months I feel like I know everyone, when Elder Mapusua came it made me realize just how much a bout the ward hey really know. Elder Mapusua and I D cited to focus on all the less active in our ward. I am doing really well. I told President Warner that he is not allowed to transfer me from this area I like it here too much to leave. Recently we got a new Elder his name is Elder Hill. I was really excited because I am no longer the greenest in the zone. I found out today that we get to go to the temple again i'm really excited about that.
I feel like I have changed a good amount I feel like I am more organized and way cleaner. Also I am way more in tune with my thoughts then I ever was before. I have definitely been humbled on a lot of things. But the good news is that I have already overcome a lot of my many weaknesses as a missionary and I so look forward to the rest of my mission with hope. I have also learned to rely on my heavenly father for everything I do on my mission. So now I have more meaningful prayers with God. At the very beginning of my mission I struggled with my identity, for the last 18 years I was me Jason Olson and then all at once I was expected to be a representative of the most perfect person on this earth Jesus Christ. So I really wanted to be the most perfect missionary and I still do but I had to find a balance between Jason and Elder and so I have finally found the mission nary not only I want to be but the missionary God wants me to be. As a missionary you have so many rules to follow but that doesn't mean you can't have fun. We all have different personalities for a reason I like to just have a party but still work hard. Mom I love you so much thank you for all that you do I hope you have a great birthday you grandma ha ha
with love Elder Olson
